Dr. Joshua Feddes
FOUR years of undergrad, FOUR years of Chiropractic College, sleepless nights studying, FOUR sets of U.S. National board exams, THREE sets of Canadian Board exams, a physical therapy board exam, and a lot of student loans. Was it all worth it? Absolutely. There are very few jobs as rewarding as being a Chiropractor. Everyday I get to help people in need.
As a young lad growing up in a small Canadian town, my first experience with chiropractic was when I was playing basketball at a friend's house. As we were playing, a car drove up to his house, and a badly injured man who could hardly walk exited the car and slowly shuffled up to the front door. Curiously I asked my friend what was wrong with him. He told me that this father was a Chiropractor, and sometimes people that were hurt would visit him at home on weekends. I asked him what a Kwiro Praxtor was? He told me that he didn't really know. All he knew was that people went in sad and walking funny, and came out standing tall and with a smile on their faces. Sure enough, the man came out with a smile on his face. From that day forward I wanted to be a Chiropractor.
My Chiropractic education started that day at my friend's house. After graduating from high school, I proceeded to get a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, the study of human movement. From there, I went to St. Louis, Missouri to attend Logan College of Chiropractic. Chiropractic education was appealing to me due to its unique perspective on healthcare.
It is my goal and passion in life to educate patients on better lifestyle choices. A lifestyle that includes total wellness by following the laws of nature; one that includes a balanced nervous system allowing our body to naturally heal and be pain free in the absence of being highly medicated, and one that promotes healthy long lasting lifestyle choices that can be maintained as we grow older to allow for the best quality of life possible. Drugs do not cure anything. They may make a person feel better for the time being, and make a person have less symptoms, but will do nothing to make that person healthier. The most satisfying experience I get as a Chiropractor is seeing the light bulb go on in my patient's eyes. I see them transform into an informed health consumer, treating their bodies like temples under which we must protect and nourish if wanting to maintain its inborn health. They continue chiropractic care for life. Not because they have to, but because they know their body continually encounters stress, and they want to make sure their body is best able to adapt to these stressors in a safe and natural way.
Being a healthcare professional, it only made sense for me to marry the love of my life, Tara, a fellow Chiropractor who shares my same ambition, love, and passion for helping others reach their health goals. We currently live in Rochester Hills and enjoy playing outside with our dog, Gus, reading, bike riding the Clinton River and Paint Creek trails, and visiting Stoney Creek and Bloomer parks.
I enjoy keeping active with playing hockey, tennis, basketball, and golf. I enjoy keeping my body in shape by exercising at the Rochester Athletic Club, a networking partner to our Rochester office. I try and eat as healthy as possible, but get away with what I can when my wife isn't looking.
My belief system is based on an intimate understanding about human body form and function and human physiology of how people stay healthy, opposed to the allopathic belief system of primarily studying "pathology" or "sickness."
- I believe that medications are necessary on occasion to overcome acute pain syndromes but are not a solution for long-term health management.
- I believe that every action has a reaction, and that every bad health choice we make will manifest itself at some point in the future. I believe in the "You are what you eat," and "if you don't use it, you lose it" philosophies.
- I believe that every medication and toxin you introduce to your body will have, to some degree, a side effect or create an imbalance or deficiency regardless of its presumed safety.
- I believe that what was once good for you is still good for you: exercising and eating healthy. Our bodies haven't changed in 1000 years; the chronic stresses of today's world have. Our bodies are simply unable to overcome these stresses, thus creating a perpetual lean toward the "poor" health spectrum.
- I believe that the healthcare system would save millions of dollars if they implemented "preventative maintenance" and "healthcare" programs in place of "sickness care" and the high costs associated with trying to cover up symptoms related to an already out of control health.
- I believe in mandatory chiropractic coverage for all people to help lower health care costs.
- I believe that if you have a spine and are breathing, you need to periodically get your spine checked by a specialist to ensure optimal health.
I consider myself a scholar and a skeptic. I pride myself on being a "people person" and attempt to put a smile on every face I come in contact with.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our site and learn more about chiropractic and me. I strongly recommend having your spine checked, just like you have your teeth checked for cavities. Underlying problems may be lurking unbeknownst to you and causing spinal decay. Don't wait until you have symptoms! Have your spine examined today! Feel free to contact me at one of our offices or e-mail me personally at drfeddes@gosschiro.com for any further inquiries, comments, or concerns.
